Most of you guys might know me from my fan page @ptvsirens on Instagram. Some of you might just know me from real life, or you just happened to be reading this blog post right now. I have been good at maintaining my fan page for two years now, and I couldn’t have done it without certain priorities and goals. I am going to go through a few tips that helped me when first starting my account, and some tips that I still use!
1. Make Your Account Enjoyable For You
I first started my account as a My Chemical Romance fan page, and it stayed like that for at least a year. But soon I started to get more invested in other bands like Waterparks and All Time Low in the summer of 2021. I went through a whole thing of changing my account or pleasing my followers. I decided to change my account because I wanted to be happy posting content I was more interested in at the time. If it comes to choosing content for your interest or pleasing your followers… do what makes you happy and post what you want! Running any account, you should post enjoyable content for yourself. Running a blog, an Instagram account, or any account for that matter, is supposed to be fun. If changing content is more fun, then do it! Posting isn’t supposed to be a chore, it is something that you should look forward to doing.
2. Posting Schedules Actually Work
I was very controversial about this, but it does work when you have a schedule to post. I try to post 2-3 times a day for my main fan account, plus two posts for my @kellinandviceveryday account. But I allow myself to take Sundays off since I am usually recording music, doing homework, or working on the blog or my book. Life happens, but I allow myself to try my best to stick to a normal schedule. My format on Instagram is pretty organized, and I usually have three columns for pictures, memes, and reels. I do edit, so I usually repost from my TikTok account, @ptvsirens.
3. Take a Break When You Need It
This one I have struggled with for almost the whole life of my fan page. I use the fan page as a coping mechanism because it makes me happy to share my interests. I can’t share my interests sometimes in real life, so I get to do it there. But trust me, life does get overwhelming and sometimes I can’t remember or make an effort to post. Luckily, my followers are very understanding of that. My friend Kellin has reminded me that I don’t have to post every single day. I can take a break, and work on other things. I started taking off Sundays last week, and it does help my mental health already. Try to dedicate an off day for yourself, it helps a lot.
4. Follower Count Does Not Matter
At first, I was obsessed with getting a ton of followers. But, I realized I really didn’t care about how many people were following me. I made my account for myself, and my happiness. Trust me, it is great that my account has a lot of followers. But, what makes me happy is that they genuinely enjoy the content I post. As long as people enjoy it, that is what matters most to me.
5. Interactions
I try to interact with my followers as much as I can. I haven’t been the best at it lately with school starting, and managing my own time. But I do try to interact when I can, even if it is just a simple poll or a question. I like interacting with everyone, and that is just another part of the fun that having an account does. Story polls work great, I usually ask what I should post and I end up posting what the highest vote count is. Or, I just have people vote on which color I should dye my hair next. That won’t be up for a while though, since I like to keep my hair natural throughout fall.
These are my top five tips for running a fan page. I try to incorporate each of these into my account, and I have seen a great impact on my reach and my mental health. Just do what makes you happy, and as long as you are enjoying what you do… that means you are doing a good job. Have a great week everyone!
